Having spent several frustrating years failing to find the perfect family house in West Sussex, the clients decided to take a punt on an uninspiring Edwardian house with modern additions.

The question was how to transform an awkward looking house into the ideal family home.

We initially discussed total demolition and rebuild but felt that this was wasteful and the existing West elevation had some attractive stone and brickwork typical of the area which set the tone for the project.

We added a third gable using the same local materials, moved the porch to the centre, and changed the small windows to larger sash windows.

‘The idea was to reimagine the house as a traditional Sussex farmhouse with Georgian improvements.’

For the clients the search is finally over. They have found their dream Sussex farmhouse, perfectly adapted to modern family life.
