When the neighbouring farm came up for sale the clients were faced with the prospect of the land adjacent to their historical barn being developed for housing. They duly purchased the farm which had a small dilapidated farmhouse and modern barns.

The old farmhouse was beyond repair and the modern barns were redundant. The challenge was to replace the farmhouse and outbuildings with a new home that would appear natural to its South Downs village setting.

The key reference points were the three listed farmhouses in the village which shared common characteristics. Our proposal closely follows the form and materials of these houses whilst opening up the layout to take in the stunning views of the South Downs.

At a casual glance the house appears to be a traditional Wealden farmhouse but a closer inspection reveals clues that there is a bright spacious home inside.
